13 May 2017, several of our club members had the pleasure of attending the official opening of two bridges built to link up the walk and cycleway loop around the Kopurererua Valley.  Tauranga Mayor, Greg Brownless, Rotary Centennial Trust’s chairman and Rotary Tauranga member Mark Dean cut the ribbon together and declared the bridges open.

Rotary Centennial Trust and Tauranga Council have put a lot of effort into clearing 20ha land, planting 15 ha with 220, 000 native trees and plants, creating 15kms of boardwalks and walkways developed since 2000. Realignment of Kopurererua stream has been undertaken to provide additional wetlands and habitat for the wildlife. The bridges are another step towards restoration and development of this 350 hectare valley.

On the day, a good number of people on bikes and walking are putting the bridges to good use
indicating much use in the future.
